Washington, D.C. - The below statement regarding the vote on H.R.7217 can be attributed to Congressman Jake Auchincloss (D, MA-04):
“It is shameful how House Republicans have turned one of our closest allies into a political weapon. Congress needs to support our allies, all of them.
“Now that this stunt has played out, I encourage the Speaker to bring to the floor legislation that will actually be signed into law to support democracies abroad.
“Israel should never be used as a partisan cudgel, yet Speaker Johnson has once again chosen a cynical ploy to divide.
“I supported an effort to add back support for Ukraine, Taiwan, humanitarian aid for Gaza, and non-profit security grants from the bipartisan Senate bill, but this broken process prevented its consideration.”
